North Lanarkshire Carers Together and Carer Positive
Carers Rights day was celebrated in Lanarkshire with a joint award event, seeing local and national organisations coming together to highlight how impactful partnership working can be.
At the event, North Lanarkshire Carers Together and Lanarkshire Links, who already have a history of partnership working, were both awarded for being Carer Positive employers, with NLCT reaching exemplary status.
NLCT also signed their Stigma Free Lanarkshire Pledge to action after working with the SFL team to create an action plan for tackling stigma and discrimination as an employer.
Frank Fallon MBE, Chairperson of Lanarkshire Links “We all recognise the need to address the mental health stigma and discrimination faced by un-paid carers in Lanarkshire, but today NLCT has also pledged their commitment to it’s employees and volunteers by creating an action plan to ensure they take sustainable steps towards maintaining a mentally healthy and stigma free workplace.”
Liz Seaton, Chairperson at NLCT “Our organisation prides ourselves on working well with our partners and it really is great to see SFL on board and really understanding Carer Positive and the way that both [projects] connect. There are not any carers that we sit down with on a daily basis that don’t in some way say that their mental health has been impacted so it’s fantastic that this piece of work has come together today”
Carers and their rights are mentioned throughout Lanarkshire’s newly launched Mental Health and Wellbeing Strategy and it has already been widely reported that carers in the UK are at a high risk of mental health problems. This is just one of the reasons that SFL & NLCT will continue to work closely together on an ongoing project led by carers in Lanarkshire.
