At Lanarkshire Links we know that getting creative is great for your wellbeing and can be a vital coping strategy for dealing with mental health problems. With many activities across Lanarkshire postponed for the foreseeable future we wanted to create an opportunity for people to be involved in something positive.

We are inviting you to create the cover image for the summer edition of Mental Health Matters magazine.

In line with this year’s theme for Mental Health Awareness week, the theme for the cover is Kindness which can be visualised any way you like. Visit MHF for more info: www.mentalhealth.org.uk/campaigns/mental-health-awareness-week

All you have to do to enter is submit your image as per the requirements mentioned below via e-mail as a high quality Jpeg.

1st Prize – £50 Amazon e-voucher

The winning image will feature on the front cover of the magazine, within an article which will also showcase the 2 runners up and appear on the Lanarkshire Links website along all other competition entries.

2nd Prize  –  £30 Amazon e-voucher.

The runners up image will feature in an article in the magazine and appear on the Lanarkshire Links website along all other competition entries.

3rd Prize – £20 Amazon e-voucher.

The 2nd runners up image will also feature in an article in the magazine and appear on the Lanarkshire Links website along all other competition entries.

To Enter:

The only entry requirement is that you must live, work or study in Lanarkshire. If you are under the age of 16 your parent or carer will need to sign a consent form on your behalf. (Please contact us for the consent form.)

Please send your image to sfl@lanarkshirelinks.org.uk with “COMP” as the e-mail subject.

Please include your name, a contact telephone number and a short description of how your image relates to the theme of Kindness.

1 entry per person.

The deadline for entries is 12 noon on Friday 5th June 2020. Entries submitted after this time will not be included in the judging.

Winners will be announced by 12 noon on Friday 12th June 2020.

The image:

Must be an original image that you own and has not been submitted or displayed to other competitions, exhibitions or online publications.

Must be a high quality Jpeg and can be a photograph, digital artwork, drawing or painting*

Our magazine is published in an A4 format.

Images should have no text.

Photographs including other people will need to be submitted with consent forms signed by all of the individuals pictured. (Please contact us for the consent form.)

*Due to the current situation we do not have access to our offices and are unable to accept postal entries so any drawings and paintings should be scanned or captured with a camera phone.

Below are some of our previous editions of the magazine that you could use for inspiration.

Winner selection:

The Stigma Free Lanarkshire team will assess all entries for suitability and finalists will then be passed onto a panel of 3 Lanarkshire Links committee members. A winner and 2 runners will be decided based on –

Originality, creativity and interpretation of the theme.

Winners will be contacted by e-mail or phone.

The Mental Health Foundation say that loneliness is affecting more and more of us and has had a huge impact on our physical and mental health during the pandemic. Our connection to other people and our community is fundamental to protecting our mental health and we need to find better ways of tackling the epidemic of loneliness. We can all play a part in this. We can all have times where we have dips in our self-esteem. Perhaps we lack confidence or don’t feel that we matter or maybe we just don’t feel good about ourselves. Living with low self-esteem can damage our mental wellbeing, leading to problems such as depression and anxiety. When you have an existing mental health issue any stigma and discrimination that you might experience can cause a loss of confidence and self-esteem, making recovery much more difficult. There are many ways we can improve our self-esteem such as looking after ourselves and noticing the good things about ourselves. You can get practical tips for improving your self-esteem here: https://www.nhsinform.scot/illnesses-and-conditions/mental-health/mental-health-self-help-guides/self-esteem-self-help-guideThis guide aims to help you:

The purpose of Lanarkshire Links is to support mental health service users and carers to be involved in the process of planning services and service provision.

This will include ensuring that service providers are informed about problems with existing services and current examples of good practice which can be rolled out to other areas. That the process of involvement is inclusive and not detrimental to peoples’ health and welfare and that we can truly influence the services available in Lanarkshire.
