Choose Life - A National Strategy and Action Plan to prevent suicide in Scotland
The North Lanarkshire draft action plan for Choose life has been completed and submitted to the National Implementation Support Team within the deadline.
This work was lead by Susan Taylor, Manager, Community Care (Adults) North Lanarkshire Social Work Dept. with a wide range of other departments and agencies involved. Lanarkshire Links Chairman, Frank Fallan was a signatory to the draft.
Much work remains to be done and there will be scope for service users and carers to be further involved in the implementation of the plan. In South Lanarkshire user and carer involvement in Choose Life is also beginning and we want to here form people interested.
Media Training
We are seeking members who would be interested in undertaking the media training course which has been undertaken by SEE ME…… , the national anti stigma project. We will be discussing bringing the course to Lanarkshire to be more accessible by our members.
Special Interest Groups
We are very conscious that much of our work to date has concentrated on ‘adult’ mental health although we do have a small number of members involved with older peoples mental health development.
Over the next few years we need to engage with minority groups such as people with a sensory impairment, minority ethnic groups, the lesbian, gay and bisexual, transgender community, etc. to try to involve them in planning mental health services. If you are familiar with any of these communities and would like to discuss involvement, please get in touch.
Partners
Lanarkshire Links will work with the partnership agencies to ensure their support for the funding and development of local mental health issues groups.
Memorial
It is with deep regret and sadness that we report the untimely passing of our friends colleagues, John Miller and Vicent McBride.
